After receiving many adverse comments about the proposed changes to the Greens Bus service in Cropwell Bishop, Trent Barton and the County Council have agreed to postpone registration of the changes for a month to allow further consideration of the points made.
They intend to come back with some modified proposals within the next week or two. We will await these revised proposals before making any further comments.

Many thanks for the helpful comments made to date. We will publish the revised proposals as soon as we receive them.

Pushing for a Bus Service that serves Us

A meeting was held at Colston Bassett on 28th January with Chris Ward (Team Manager, Transport and planning operations, Notts County Council) and representatives of the Parishes affected by the County sponsored ‘853’ bus service. There have been many complaints about the adequacy, timekeeping and poor quality of this service.

Statistics prepared by the County showed at the most 2 and usually 0 (Zero) people per day used the service from Cropwell Bishop and Cropwell Butler. The meeting agreed that it would be preferable to separate the Kinoulton/Hickling to Keyworth service from the Colston/Owthorpe/Cotgrave/Cropwell service.

There was uncertainty about the need for a direct service to Morrisons supermarket. (I understand the Friday bus to Morrisons and Asda has very few shoppers from Cropwell)

Following the meeting Chris came up with some suggestions for an 852/853/854 service.

It is my view that the 853/854 bus could be better used to serve Cropwell; see Better Options

The next meeting was held at Barnstone on 10th February, to discuss issues associated with the Rushcliffe Greens service. Again Chris Ward invited one representative from each of the communities affected. Christian Allen Clay attended on behalf of Trent Barton.

Whilst many problems were aired it was a constructive meeting with both the County and Trent Barton agreeing to address the issues where they can (Please see Notes on this meeting).

At the meetings, I continued to push for reinstatement of the 22 type service to serve Cropwell Bishop and in particular Hoe View Road. My suggestions for an extended 22 service (or failing that a much improved 853 service) have been circulated to Chris Ward and the Parish representatives.(See Better Options link above)

My thanks to Cllr Richard Butler and Cllr Gordon Moore who have been extremely supportive of Cropwell Bishop’s needs throughout the discussions.

We are now awaiting further proposals from the County and Trent Barton.

We have today received an e-mail from Chris Ward at Nottinghamshire County Council with regard to the bus services as follows:-

Subject: Revised Bus Service

Good morning Janice,

We have received a number of emails regarding the revised bus services, the most recent of which asks for further information ahead of your Parish Council meeting this week.

We sent a full reply to the Cropwell Bishop Parish Council re their initial concerns regarding the new bus services. This makes a commitment to review the services later this year when they have been operational for a couple of months. Once we have the operational data and customer feedback we can judge, along with Trent Barton, if any changes are needed. We can then also have further discussions with all the Parish Councils. We need to remember that the new service operates to a number of villages who seem very pleased with them.

At the current time there is nothing further that I can add to our previous responses.

Kind regards,

Chris Ward
Team Manager, Transport & Planning Operations
Transport & Travel Services

The Parish Councils Response is as follows:-

Villages such as Granby, Elton, Orston, Aslockton, and Whatton may well be pleased with the new service as they now have 2 buses per hour to Nottingham as well as sensible links to Bingham.

Some villages (Langar, Barnstone, Granby) also have the number 24 service which runs in to Bingham every couple of hours. Aslockton has its rail services.

What does Cropwell have ? – One unreliable bus to Nottingham each hour, and a 45 minute rural journey to Bingham (provided you set off back from Bingham before 14.10).
Can the County not see the imbalance of the current provision. Payments to Trent Barton for the rural Vale services have increased from £375 per day to £524 per day (which does include a replacement for the old 55) but our service to Cropwell has been drastically cut with the daytime 22 removed leaving only the unreliable Green into Town and the odd 853 service to Cotgrave. This represents extremely poor value for money spent and leaves the residents of Cropwell disappointed and frustrated at the poor service.

Residents should continue to report their problems with the bus service to the County ( ) and to Trent Barton ( ) The Parish Clerk, Jan Towndrow ( ) will forward on any complaints she receives.

Further Updates to Bus Service

Update (12/07/14) on Changes to Bus Services for Cropwell Bishop

We now have a little more information from the County Council about the changes to our bus services from August 4th 2014

The 22 will not serve Cropwell Bishop during the daytime.  It will run only between Cotgrave and Nottingham except for 2 morning and evening commuter services to Cropwell and the Vale villages.

The Rushcliffe Greens will continue to serve Cropwell Bishop as at present with an hourly daytime service to and from Nottingham Friar Lane, via Radcliffe.  The Green service will then carry on into the Vale serving Langar, Barnstone, Granby, Sutton, Orston, Whatton, Aslockton and Bingham.  It does provide a link to Bingham but it is rather a long way round for Cropwell residents.

We are still awaiting timetable information from Trent Barton for the revised 22 and Greens service.

Nottinghamshire County Council has published a leaflet listing the new supported linking services.  There is one small piece of good news for Cropwell Bishop. The 853 Cotgrave to Kinoulton and Keyworth service will travel via Cropwell Bishop.  This means there will be buses (Monday to Saturday) from Hoe View Road (via Cropwell Butler) to Cotgrave (Candleby Lane) at 10.45, 12.45 and 14.45 and returning from Cotgrave (Candleby Lane) at 11.15 and 13.15.

Unfortunately the 853 times do not seem to connect with the 22 service at Cotgrave nor do they offer any beneficial link with the Cotgrave Connection services.  However, the 853 service does provide a trip to Keyworth (11.25 from Hoe View Road, returning at 14.10 from Keyworth)

Copies of the NCC leaflet giving 853 times are available in the Cabin or can be viewed at the following web site:

The Parish Council has written a formal letter of complaint to the County Council, pointing out the poor service for Cropwell Bishop and requesting restoration of the 22 daytime service to Cotgrave, Morrisons and Nottingham.  Our County Councillor, Richard Butler, is also campaigning on our behalf to have a reasonable service and local links restored.
