Agenda Item 9a)

CBMH Chairman’s Monthly Report – September 2026

NEW BUILDING PROGRESS & FUNDRAISING

Pam Wregg continues to investigate the background details on the Hall and its land relating to the acquisitions of the two parcels of land from the early 1900’s. This information will be useful in future negotiations for the Planning/Development and Grant assistance legitimacy.

There have always been many stories told of the Hall and its somewhat peppered history, but more and more factual information reveals itself as we move forward with extremely interesting details of whom the land originally bequeathed by and for what purpose, predominantly to serve the Village of Cropwell Bishop.

No major fundraising events have been held through this period but we are building up to our next busy segment of the year with plenty of regular events on the way.

Time efforts, made by many volunteers, have created a massive boost in our quest to reach our goal, but sometimes the net financial result has been disappointing for the amount of input. The bond, however, that has now been created within this growing group of volunteers has been so refreshing, it gives us the energy to carry on.

GENERAL

It has been amazing to see the grass growing back on the playing Field and smell the fresh cut blades in the air, always reminds me of childhood somehow. We have lost a couple of small trees on the boundaries but the staked ones around the Petanque court appear to have survived thank goodness.

Small bits of maintenance continue around the main building and the Kitchen continues to operate successfully supplying good food and drinks. All is prepared for the next big food event being the Fireworks Display, where we can provide the essential and traditional Mushy Peas and Hot Dogs.

We still have the situation with the metal gates to the Playing Field which are just about adequate but will require major surgery or even replacement. If there is anybody that could help in any way with metalwork, please do not hesitate to contact us. I know that the Parish Council will assist wherever possible too and maybe between us we can reach a solution for the next few years ?

PETANQUE

We have been extremely lucky this season as the weather has been great for the regular Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Shortly however, we will be finishing until next Spring, and a small amount of work will be taking place to further improve the surface which has suffered a bit this year due to lack of rain.

The facility itself is generally great for what is required and as long as we keep the weeds away should be around for many years to come and thoroughly enjoyed by the group of people who champion it.
