HEALTH & SAFETY POLICY

Parish Council Logo

STATEMENT ON HEALTH AND SAFETY

Adopted October 2010

The Council’s health and safety aim is to minimise the number of instances of occupational accidents and illnesses and to achieve an accident-free workplace.

Cropwell Bishop Parish Council recognises and accepts its duty to protect the health and safety of all visitors to the Council officers and the Old School Community building, including contractors and temporary workers, as well as any member of the public who may be affected by the Councils operations.

While the Council will do all that is within its powers to ensure the health and safety of its employees, it is recognised that health and safety at work is the responsibility of each and every individual associated with the Council. It is the duty of each employee to take reasonable care of their own and other people’s welfare and to report any situation which may pose a threat to the well-being of themselves or any other person.

Appropriate preventative and protective measures are and will continue to be implemented following identification of work-related hazards and assessments of the risks associated with them.

We recognise the importance of employer/employee consultation on matters of health and safety and the value of individual consultation prior to allocating health and safety functions.

The contents of this statement will be reviewed annually to reflect any changes to the Health & Safety at Work Act.

Whilst the Parish Council recognises its’ duties and responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, the objectives of this safety statement can only be achieved through the support and co-operation of employees and all other persons who use the premises – i.e. contractors, users, members of the public and students.

This policy will be regularly monitored to ensure that the objectives are achieved. It will be reviewed and, if necessary, revised in the light of any legislative or organisational changes.

This Health and Safety Policy Statement was considered and approved by Cropwell Bishop Parish Council at its meeting on 3rd March 2026 Minute Reference: M453

I moved to the village in 2022 and quickly found myself feeling at home within its welcoming community. I work locally as a bus driver for Trent Barton, a role that keeps me closely connected to people across the area. My family and I are fully involved in village life. I have three children, all of whom take part in local activities—from youth club to football—and my youngest two attend the village primary school. Seeing them grow up in such a supportive environment has strengthened my commitment to helping the village continue to thrive. Outside of work and council duties, I’m passionate about sport and music. I enjoy playing guitar and have a growing vinyl collection that reflects my love of music, new and old.

As a parish councillor, my priority is to help build an inclusive, vibrant community where everyone feels they belong. I want to support initiatives that allow the village to flourish and to ensure that residents of all ages have opportunities to participate and be heard.

CROPWELL BISHOP PARISH COUNCIL.

POLICY STATEMENT ON COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
To achieve our ambition the Parish Council needs to work closely with all of its residents and
community and voluntary groups.
This will go beyond consultation and participation; our aim is to engage residents who will,
participate in decision making, work alongside us to design, deliver, and monitor services and vote in
elections
It will mean that the Parish Council will promote genuine partnership and collaboration, and ensure
that people have the opportunities and capacity to be effective citizens.
Our overall aim is:
To ensure, through a wide range of public consultation and community engagement the Parish
Council actively listens, considers and uses the views of its villagers as an integral part of its decision-
making process.
That its policies reflect the aspirations and needs of a diverse village.
Our objectives are to:
Agree shared ambitions for the locality and the community.
Strengthen the Councils democratic engagement with and accountability to its residents.
Be an organisation that consults, communicates, and makes changes as a result of our
communities and service users views.
Improve in partnership with service providers the needs of a diverse community and tackle
inequality and exclusion.
Develop working relationships with voluntary and community sector partners to deliver local
priorities and improve quality of life.
Nurture vibrant and active communities who can take up the opportunities for voice and
choice in relation to public services and decision making.
Devolve power where appropriate to voluntary and community groups.
In order to achieve these policy objectives, the Council will adopt a corporate implementation
strategy.
This strategy is part of the Councils commitment to creating and maintaining effective working
relationship with voluntary and community groups, based on trust, openness, and constructive
challenge.

I left the Prison Service and became an AA recovery patrol and transferred into the AA’s manufacturer technical training division where I trained and became a technical trainer for Volkswagen Group at the AA College at Widmerpool.  During this time, I became a Parish Councillor for the village.

My role was transferred to Milton Keynes to which I commuted daily and after doing this for 2 years I sought a career nearer to home and joined Leicestershire Police as a Police Officer.  I served for 17 years and in my service performed a variety of roles some which included being a local beat officer both in the City and County.  It was at this time I left the Parish Council due to a conflict of interest.

During this time, I left the village for 10 years moving approximately 5 miles away.  Due to having family in the village, I had regular contact with things happening within the village.

I took over the running of the family farm in 2023 and the family and I are now living back in the village, and I am a volunteer with the RAFAC – The Royal Air Force Cadets.

I am keen to take an active part in the village and help the village where I can. If you see me when you are out and about, please come and chat to me.

I have lived in Cropwell Bishop since 2005, returning to Nottinghamshire after spending 5 yrs. working in London and the South East in a Customer Service role.  Since retiring, I have been able to take a more active role in village life and will endeavour to help the Parish Council make Cropwell Bishop a great place to live.

My grandson attends Cropwell Bishop Primary School and I volunteer at the School Gardening Club, also supporting Friends of School. This gives me some insight into residents’ concerns and challenges including Environmental issues, increasingly impacting on our lives

After raising concerns about speeding traffic through the Village, I joined the Village Community Speed watch Team, primarily with the aim of increasing driver speed awareness as they pass through the village.

I am Secretary of the Growers & Gardeners at the Village Gardening Club and encourage everyone to get outside and keep physically active…not necessarily Gardening!
